The haze this past few days have gotten really bad. Staying indoors all the time is not a solution since the haze can seep through gaps in the house. Further more, it is like being under house arrest. So is there any practical solution to solve the haze problem?
How about using a misting system to combat the haze? The types you see outside restaurants that creates mist that is usually used for cooling purposes.
It would be impossible to create clean air for a small area let alone an entire city but it can probably help reduce the effects of haze around a small building if you installed the nozzles like a curtain around the perimeter.
The tiny water droplets can cause the smoke particles to stick to one another and fall to the ground rather than float about. The tiny droplet will create a micro climate around the house to reduce heat as well as keep the particles that irritates our lungs at bay.
What about after the haze clears up? Well, it still can function as an evaporative cooler during hot days so all is not lost when the weather improves.
What about cost? This online hardware shop in Malaysia sells a model that is attached with a fan for about RM 1,650. I reckon it will cost at least RM 3,000 or more for a properly installed water filter, a high pressure pump, metal hoses and nozzles if your house is not too big.
You can try DIY solutions but be careful here. If the water pressure is not high enough, you won’t be able to create fine water mist and if you do use a high pressure pump, make sure your pipes or hoses can withstand the pressure.
It would be good if anyone can chip in with the cost and thoughts about this.
